The Great Buddha is known as DAIBUTSU , it is truly impressive Bronze Statue. It’s stands as a testament to craftmanship and devotion. Visitors are granted the priviledge of entering it’s interior and during my visit , I eagerly seized the chance to step inside and explore .
The Great Buddha of Kamakura stands at an impressive height of approximately 13.35 meters (44 feet), making it one of the largest bronze statues of Buddha in Japan. The statue is depicted in the “Amida Nyorai” (Amitabha Buddha) pose, with its hands forming a gesture known as “seppō-in,” symbolizing fearlessness and reassurance
The statue’s serene facial expression and calm demeanor exude a sense of tranquility and spiritual presence. The intricately crafted drapery and the texture of the statue’s surface highlight the artistry and attention to detail of its creators. The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a representation of Amida Buddha, symbolizing eternal light and enlightenment.
The statue is crafted from bronze, and its construction dates back to the 13th century, specifically the year 1252. The statue was originally enshrined within a large wooden hall, which was destroyed by multiple typhoons and tsunamis over the centuries. Today, the statue stands in the open air, exposed to the elements.
